Studio Lighting – Shooting With Hard Light

Filmed Live at an exhibition this film shows mark demonstrating how shooting with hard light is great for glamorous fashion type images. Initially just using 1 light and a clip on barn door he shows how to gradient a background and how to light the subject at the same time using a parabolic reflector dish.

The demonstration leads on to adding in a second light as a hair light as well as to effect the image usin flare for effect.

Filmed live at an exhibition this technical film on lighting see Mark Cleghorn demonstrating and explaining his one light techniques for portraiture and fashion photography. Using a combination of hard light, which is what he calls the Raw flash hitting the subject, along with lighting accessories to shape, modify and soften the light, including a Parabolicreflector, as well as using a Lastolite HiLite background as a soft-box.

You will also see how he uses a reflector to enhance an already flat lit subject to bring a little accent to the light on the face.

This short film demonstrates the key skills to effective portraits whether you are in a studio or on location. He discusses his Souffle Lighting – which basically means by using the same lighting techniques each time you are guaranteed of the results.

Hi-Key set up is discussed, one that will work any were even at an exhibition trade hall setting.
